Is SEO a good career in 2025?
It depends if you are ready to navigate through an ever changing landscape. SEO roles tend to become more flexible and less traditional, like this Reddit user shares:

Therefore, some SEO marketers find it difficult to find a permanent, full-time and secure SEO job:

Although SEO job search is becoming more challenging in the sense that the roles are more flexible, SEO remains one of the most promising and dynamic career paths in 2025. With over 68% of online experiences starting with a search engine and 53% of website traffic driven by organic search, businesses continue to prioritize SEO as a key strategy for growth and visibility.
The demand for SEO professionals is rising across sectors, driven by evolving trends like voice search, AI-powered algorithms, mobile-first indexing, and zero-click search results. This shift creates new opportunities for those skilled in both technical SEO and content strategy.
The roles you can choose from are also broad. Whether you’re aiming for roles like SEO analyst, technical expert, content strategist, or consultant, the path is flexible. It even extends into freelancing and entrepreneurship, where professionals can build agencies or consult for global clients.

How Get Started with SEO Jobs
In case you are just starting your SEO journey, you must have many questions about where to start from. The industry is becoming more diverse and it may be scary for someone who has no experience to find their way and be successful in a field with 20 years of history and counting.
Don’t worry, we’ve all been there.
My SEO Journey
Let me briefly share my story.

Mind you, all the jobs below were combined with weekend and evening jobs at a supermarket, factories, house cleaning and fast food restaurants.
After completing my Bachelor’s in Media and Communications in Goldsmiths, University of London, I started my professional work experience with a business development internship with Matthew Black. I was attending his meetings with entrepreneurs, taking notes, helping them with their SEO, social media and lead generation. I also visited numerous business networking events where I had to chat up startup founders and tell them about Matt’s StartupTV project.
Then, I went on to complete a Professional Digital Marketing Diploma Course with the DMI, where the project was a personal portfolio website. I passed with flying colors and got a job as an Account Manager in a boutique digital marketing agency shortly after.
There, I mastered ethical manual link building and soon went on to become a freelancer. That was at the end of 2019 and the pandemic struck a few months later. And I decided that I could work remotely from home.
Soon after, I started working as a Marketing Assistant (mostly content creation and link building) with a WordPress agency while freelancing with clients on the side.
Fast forward to 2025, I am focusing on my website and building up my client base. And that’s just scratching the surface!
